I once mentioned that I only use glass nail files when I do my nails, and ever since many of my readers have been asking questions about them.
I got my first (and only, until recently) glass nail file from my best friend about five or six years ago for my birthday. It was encrusted with Swarovski crystals, and she told be that now I should file my nails in public more often, so that other people can see the crystals and think of me as chic and glamorous.
And I got hooked right away! So what are the advantages of using a glass nail file?
- Glass files are not as harsh as regular sandpaper or metal nail files. They will minimize chipping and peeling of your nails.
- Glass files are forever! By that I mean that they are permanently etched and will never become worn down. You can’t say that about “regular” files, can you? (I’ve been using the glass file my friend gave me daily ever since I got it!)
- They are easy to clean. You can wash a glass file with soap and water or even sterilize it with heat or alcohol.
The crystal glass file I got from my friend was made by the company called Mont Bleu, and last week they provided me with a new file for testing! Needless to say, it was as good as my first one.

That’s it, I’m switching to glass nail files now
Sounds awesome, and you get chic-appeal too!
Great read, thanks for this! I’ve never tried glass nail files before, but they sound amazing
So that’s one of your secrets! I’ve always been very impressed by your beautiful hands
Thanks for sharing
That sounds like a great thing. Shall try them out!
I only use a glass nail file too! I bought mine from Sephora around 3 or 4 years ago and since then my nails are even more healthier! It’s also so easy to file my nails with it, it instantly smoothes the tips. Plus, for it has a smoothly curved tip, helps me push back my cuticules gently so it’s a two-in-one for me
Great idea! I usually use a wooden stick for that, but I’ll try to do it your way!
Love things like these, so pretty and superuseful
I really, really want a glass nail file! I’ve been looking for them everywhere but just can’t find any here. I guess they are just less common than the sandpaper ones!
Hey Leia, you can buy Mont Bleu files online from our e-shop http://www.design-glassware.com/
P.S. Antonia sorry for advertising, just wanted to let people know where they can buy genuine Mont Bleu files
Sounds pretty awesome, will check it out! Thanks for a very informative and inspiring post
I’m following your blog for a long time but it’s my first comment. I want to thank you for sharing advantages of glass nail file. Yesterday I went shopping and by chance run into glass nail file. It’s really amazing, tips of nails are not bumpy, you clearly feel that you’re not damaging nails while filing. Thanks again.
I’m so glad I could help! Thank you for reading my blog:)
Kind wishes,
Antonia
By the way here is my post about your blog and my review about glass nail file.
