Too early for Christmas

Two of my friends have recently asked me what I wish for this Christmas. You know, I can’t believe it’s so soon already! I’m not the kind of person who buys presents so long in advance. I do try to think of something for everyone, but I’m definitely one of those brave (crazy?) persons running around in shops during the last days before Christmas and trying to find all the things on the list!

I agree! It’s too early! Are the stores in Sweden all decked out with Christmas Decorations? Here, if you visit any department store, you would swear it is already Christmas. It’s crazy. I need to get through both Halloween and Thanksgiving before I can start think about Christmas. And yes, every year I also scramble at the last minute trying to get everyone on my list.

I don’t like to start shopping til December, in my family the Christmas season starts on St. Nicholas Day (December 6).

I mean: I agree! It’s far too early!

I know it seems silly but for me, it takes a lot of thought, time and preparation to have everything pulled together for the holiday season so it doesn’t hurt to start to think about things. Decorating, cooking, shopping and sending…….there are a lot of extra things to stuff into a day along with all the other things that must be fitted in. Maybe I’m just getting old ! :)

Nothing silly about it! In fact, I wish I was more like you, Meredith. Sometimes, all the stress right before Christmas can almost ruin it all!..

Well, for me it’s all about the beautiful decorations, family traditions like a nice meal with your best china, crystal and silver, the songs and just the spirit of X-mas. The gifts are less important although it is fun on X-mas morning to make everyone happy with some gifts. It takes a lot of time to plan, shop, decorate, cook etc. so I find if I start early it helps eliminate stress and I get to enjoy the season too, and not feel that I’ve done all this work just for others.

  5. I think it’s never too early to shop for Christmas. Think about all the crowds, queues and probably higher prices come closer to the festive season. I love browsing around the shops when it’s quite, stop for a cup of tea perhaps and I can take my time to pick and choose with the hustle and bustle of other shoppers :)

My sister just texted me, asking about my wishlist for Christmas! I hadn’t given it a single thought yet, it’s just too early! Not even November yet!

The truth is that there are still two months, and here in Spain do not even feel cold, see close to Christmas is difficult. But it is true that two months passed very quickly, if I think in I did two months ago really seems like yesterday. In my family (uncles, cousins, nephews, etc …) we do the “invisible friend” and the truth is that I have my gift purchased. But to buy gifts for my parents, brothers and my boyfriend I always wait to be at Christmas, it’s crazy, but it has more charm.

The truth is I have a lot of looking forward to Christmas, the season is the prettier and more intense, since we spent surrounded by friends and family members sometimes do not see in all year. I love Christmas decorations, the carols, the endless meals with friends and family around a table, receiving and giving gifts, the spirit of solidarity that awakens this time … all! And this year I will spend 4 days in Paris with my boyfriend and another couple of friends and although I know the city, I have really wanted to reconnect with the beautiful and eternal city of love that in Christmas has to look beautiful and charming.
