Swedish winter ocean baths

istapp icicle sweden swedish love affairMy family and my godmother are visiting here right now, so the family adventures continue. Today we’ve all been to an outdoor ocean bath. That’s typically Swedish. First you sit in a really hot sauna for a while and then you run outside and jump in the ocean. With ice floating on the water surface and everything! Then you go to the sauna again, and then back to the ocean… Unfortunately, no pictures from there as everyone bathes naked. If you’re ever in Sweden in the winter you should definitely experience the ocean baths! Very invigorating.

Hm, i’ve never tried that.. I don’t think that’s really typical norwegian.. we just bathe in the ocean in winter without the hot sauna! I think your way is much more preferable though!

I went to a Swedish-style spa recently, but I was too nervous to jump in the cold water after the sauna- I only got as far as getting my knees wet before I was too cold! You’re very brave, but I guess it helps if you’ve been doing this your whole life :)

Wow, this sounds awesome! Although I don’t know if I would be comfortable being naked in front of my whole family :O

Oh no, Leia! Sorry for misleading you! This is not how it works. There are a lot of other people there too, like 30 or so, but it’s separated between men and women. So they can’t see each other. Not that I enjoy seeing naked female bodies all the time, but still, it’s better=)
