Sacher Torte: a cake with a story

ramklints bageri konditori lund swedish love affair antoniaYesterday I had the most wonderful Sachertorte! Well, at least it was very good. The most wonderful Sacher cake can be found in Vienna or Salzburg at the Hotel Sacher. And there’s also an original Sacher store in Bolzano, Italy.
This is probably the most famous chocolate cake in the world, and it’s recipe was invented by the sixteen-year-old Franz Sacher, who at the moment was only a trainee of the royal kitchen in Vienna! The task was to create a dessert for the special guests of the prince, and the head chef had fallen ill, so the boy had to step in. What a success! This happened almost two hundred years ago, in 1832. And today the Sacher torte is one the symbols of Vienna and the trademark of the Hotel Sacher.
There are still disagreements about the “true” recipe of the cake, the number of apricot jam layers it should contain and whether it should be cut through in the middle or not.

One of my dreams and goals is one day to go to Vienna and have some coffee with The Original Sacher Torte in the Hotel Sacher. Or maybe, I’ll just order it in their online shop!

There are many copies, but only one original. Have any of you been lucky to taste the true Sachertorte?

The dress I’m wearing is one of the dresses my mum gave me for Christmas. It’s from the Danish brand Part Two.

  1. Min man brukar göra sachertårta ibland, nu tror jag inte hans är något originalrecept eller nåt men för mej blir den lite maffig. Tror jag måste ta en tur till Wien nästa gång jag är i Österrike och hitta någon där :)

Beautiful dress and hair scarf! I tried the original sachertorte in Vienna, but sadly, since I don’t really like chocolate cake, it was not much of an amazing experience for me! Shame on me, I know ;)

I have’nt had the chance to have the real one, but in Austria and Germany the Sachertorte’s are all EXQUISITE so I’m not sorry to have missed it :p

When I saw this post was about Sacher Torte, I couldn’t help but smile :) I was lucky enough to have a slice of it at the Sacher Hotel in Vienna two years ago- there really is nothing else like it! I suppose you could say it’s a life changing cake, although it didn’t change mine especially, it certainly did change Franz Sacher’s :)

The ribbon in your hair looks just lovely.
