Recipe: Drunken prunes with walnuts and port wine

Introducing my mum’s secret recipe of the best dessert I know.

You’ll need:

- Pitted soft prunes
- Walnuts
- Port wine
- Whipped cream

Try to leave the walnuts pretty chunky.

Stuff every prune with around a quarter of a walnut.

Stuff as many as you like and put them in a pan.

Use a port wine with a lot of aroma.

Pour the port wine on your stuffed prunes. Make sure they’re covered in wine and leave them over night.

Use the stove to heat the prunes with the wine they’re in before you serve them. You might need to add some more wine if they absorb too much over night.
Serve immediately while they’re warm! I use three of four stuffed prunes per serving.

I like to serve drunken prunes with some slightly sweetened whipped cream. I imagine mascarpone cheese would complement this dessert perfectly, too!

My grandmother used to make something similar when I was a kid. Of course, at the time, I turned up my nose to prunes. But now, I would like to try them, and your recipe seems pretty close to what I remember her making. Thanks so much. Can’t wait to try them.
