Loreen Talhaoui is the winner of Eurovision song contest (ESC) 2012 with Euphoria, or see you in Sweden in 2013!

In case you missed it, Sweden won this year’s Eurovision Song Contest last night! Thanks to Loreen Talhaoui (pictured), we’ve now had a total of five wins over the years (ABBA being the most famous winner with their song Waterloo back in 1974).

The winning song is called Euphoria, and even though I thought it would fare well, I didn’t expect it to win the whole competition. I thought the voters would go for Russia’s number because of the cute ladies and the catchy tune, but Russia ended up in second place.
Euphoria reminds me a lot of Till the World Ends by Britney Spears, I think you’ll notice it too if you listen to it.
Eurovision Song Contest is pretty big in Sweden, so winning means a lot for many people here. The fact that we won also means that Sweden will be hosting next year’s competition. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to visit Stockholm, this might be it!

I’m sorry that Russia didn’t win because I think the song is catchy and fun and the ladies very charming….
Congratulations to Sweden, but I don’t like the song Euphoria at all – so boring…
My favourites were Serbia, Albania and Spain.

As we say it in Russian: “Тетенька, у всякого свой вкус: один любит арбуз, другой свиной хрящик.”

Ilona, I don’t speak Russian and would like to know what you said:-) Could you please translate it for me?

        • Ilona says:

well, literally it means that everyone has a different taste; one likes watermelon, the other swinish cartilage… :)

I think it’s great that Sweden won, though i didn’t like the song. I’m not into the whole dance music…
I didn’t really like the Russian grannies either, to me the seemed to be just a gimmick.
My favorites were Romenia and Moldova and after that Iceland, Macedonia and Hungary.

  4. Yay! I didn’t know who won :) I only saw the last few songs and a recap, but when my husband and I saw a few seconds of this song we were like we have to look this up later. :D

Hi Antonia! Congratulations to Sweden! I think Euphoria is a great song and is very different from Britney’s. I and hubby listened to Euphoria so many times, its melody is so contagious–in short we’re loving it! We also loved the adorable Russian grannies, and the singer from Spain. Again, congratulations from Canada!

….forgot to say that next year we’re planning to go to Sweden and watch the Eurovision on the Globe arena. :)

Thank you, Ilona! ESC is very important for many people here, and I must say that many of my friends literally cried when we watched the final part of the show. Afterwards we had to celebrate all night to let the stress out:)
I’m happy to hear you liked the song and that you’re coming to Sweden next year!! I think the show will be spectacular. Also, spring in Sweden can be really nice.

My husband’s family lives in Sweden, so I’m sure it will be an exciting time there. :)
