I think the best nail polish colors for summer 2012 are all shades of hot pink, bright oranges and yellows – still! In my opinion, true neons rarely look good on the nails, but aside from that, the more vivid it is, the better.

I’ve now watched both seasons of the British TV series Sherlock. I must start by saying that I’m a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes as book character. I’ve read every piece of fiction written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at least once, and when it comes to his detective stories about Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, I’ve read each of them countless times. Having said that, I’ve been avoiding watching these movies, as I get easily offended when something I love gets interpreted in a “wrong” way. And I must say I felt very divided after watching the TV series.

Firstly, the contemporary surroundings did not appeal to me. But ok, I can live with that.
The part that I didn’t like at all was the way Sherlock Holmes was interpreted by the film makers. In the movies he did and said things that would have been very out-of-character for the actual Sherlock Holmes. The modern Sherlock just didn’t have the class and the style I would have liked to see, to say the least. Besides, I found the appearance of the leading actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, somewhat unattractive (which, of course, is very unfortunate, and I sincerely hope he’s not reading this).

On the positive side, I really liked how some of the century-old crime cases were translated for the modern audience. The Baskerville Hound case, for instance, had some unexpected turns even for me, who “knew everything” in advance.
Also, I really liked the performance of Martin Freeman, who played Doctor Watson. We’ve all seen him in Love Actually and The Office, but I didn’t realize he was such a brilliant actor until now! Can’t wait to see him in the next Lord of the Rings movie! Andrew Scott who played the arch-villain Jim Moriarty was great, too.

All in all, if you’re not a Sherlock Holmes fanatic like myself, I think you might enjoy these movies in case you haven’t seen them yet. It’ll help if you haven’t read the books, too. However, when it comes to me, occasionally I was just too tense and critical to actually be wholeheartedly entertained.

Today I’m sporting a sequined top paired with my mum’s checkered blouse. Interestingly, I own and buy a lot of new clothes, but I also keep wearing some really old items that used to belong to my mum when she was younger. I guess some things never go out of style.

Squeeze day in Sweden

Easter was 40 days ago, meaning that today is Ascension Thursday. In Sweden it’s a national holiday, and since there’s just one more day until weekend, many will be taking tomorrow off too. This means that today is actually the start of a four-day weekend.
This occurs almost every time a workday gets squeezed in between a holiday and the weekend. So whenever we get a Tuesday or Thursday off, we also take the Monday or Friday off respectively as a bonus to get four days off work.
These bonus days off are called klämdagar (“squeeze days”) in Swedish, and everyone here loves them.

This is me today. I’m wearing a leather jacket I got from my mum this weekend. It used to be hers, but she doesn’t ever wear it anymore. This jacket is about my age now!

I actually made two necklaces yesterday. Here’s the second one. The style is similar to the previous one, but it’s a different color combination and different materials. To make this necklace I used leather, large wooden pearls and blue glass pearls.

I’ve just made this necklace tonight. I must say it took a while (two movies)! I like how the neon yellow glass pearls and the neon pink nylon cord look together with the aged wood and the golden chains. Funky, in a good way.

As I said before, it’s all about red lipstick right now. Here’s a current favorite. It’s Illamasqua Succubus Intense Lipgloss. I got it in my Glossy box, and I’m so in love with it at the moment! The texture and consistency are amazing, and so is the staying power. No shimmer, no stickiness, no feathering. I know I’ll be getting more of Illamasqua lipglosses.

If I had to choose one favorite seasoning, it would have to be basil. I love it because you can use it both in savory and sweet dishes with great result. Such a versatile herb!
