About nails: What I like and no-nos

How I like my nails:

- Polished. If naked, buffed and shiny.

- Short! In my opinion short nails look the most chic and urban.

- With no cuticle around the nail (that’s important)

- Different colors, but mostly darks and nudes for autumn and winter. Brights and pastels for spring and summer!

What I never (ever) wear – and probably never will:

- French manicure

- Long nails

- Nail art (flowers, diamonds, pearls, sequins, small paintings on every nail etc.)

- Fake nails (those you’re supposed to glue on) or acrylic nails (that’s a little too much, and I’ve never seen real looking ones!). The same goes for all other kinds of fake nails.

Pearly nail polish finishes used to be a no-no too, but lately I’ve broken it and kind of like it.

How do you like your nails?

I’m kind of allergic to fake or acrylic nails, meaning that when I see them I cringe and think “wow those are ridiculously long”. I like nail art though – that’s to say, SOME nail art. For example, I like to have a simple little flower on my fingernails with a glitter coat on top of it. The keyword here is simplicity!

  2. Lotta says:

We have a very similar taste=)
I also like mine polished and short. I hate fake nails, it looks so cheap!
My favorite colors at the moment are: burgundy, taupe and pastel pink. I love high quality nailpolishes, I hate it when the polish looks destroyed…and it has to have a shine which lasts…
    xoxo Lotta

    • Antonia says:

Yes, I’ve noticed we have similar taste from other discussions too! As fot destroyed nail polish, in that case I think it’s better without!
      What polishes do you use?

      • Lotta says:

I use all kind of polishes….I love chanel, but can`t always afford it..and it`s strange, some of my best polishes are really, really cheap, from “manhatten cosmetics” , or nivea for example..but you can`t always trust the cheaper brands, some colors are great and others are shitty…

Gorgeous photos! I’m inspired to do mine again!

hi Antonia. Those weren’t my nails, I hope they were! Just found the pic somewhere in the net. The best I can do is this: http://shinydiscoyoga.blogspot.com/2010/08/rrrrawrr.html & http://shinydiscoyoga.blogspot.com/2010/08/imma-be-rocking-my-nails.html .
I agree with you, about the following. – French manicure

    - Long nails

    - Nail art (flowers, diamonds, pearls, sequins, small paintings on every nail etc.)

As for acrylic, let me tell you I have the annoying habit if biting ONE of my nails. From time to time I go to the nail spa and have that nail done in acrylic, otherwise I wouldn’t have a nail! It doesn’t look as fake as you think, if you dont believe me look here’s the proof:

one of those nails is fake, I guess you can tell which but it’s not THAT noticeable.
I really like your choice of color, the jaded one is kinda similar to the one i’m wearing now.
    Have a nice weekend!

  5. Caty says:

I never noticed how beautiful nails you have :D . I need to buy some colorful nail polishes too, I’m just horrible at remembering to take it off afterwards, I can leave it on for weeks ^^.

  6. Marta Moslw says:

Wow!! Your nail polishes are gorgeous!! I also prefer short nails, I think they look much prettier, at least on me!! Thanks for your sweet comment in my blog!! You’re so lovely!! My hair is all natural… my dad’s fault!! So no secrets, but genes! I’m glad you like it!!

  8. Clare Brown says:

I am pretty much the exact same way about my nails. I hate fake nails and when i was younger i used to love a french manicure but now i hate them!! the WORST

    • Antonia says:

  10. Stylista says:

Ah, love the Chanel colour. Chanel always has the best shades. For me, I would never ever do nail art. The things people pile onto their nails is scary! And really long nails are out too. A clean French manicure is ok, but I like the have nails that are kind of like yours!

  11. Leia says:

I think nails should always be neat. I am not a fan of extra long nails, either, but I do have to admit they are fun to paint (e.g. my mother’s!) I keep my nails quite short, like you – it is more practical, looks more ‘modern,’ and also is best for piano players :)

But as you know I am a fan of nail art! I don’t like fake nails or anything that looks tacky – but anything that’s feminine and pretty, I like :)

    • Antonia says:

I agree with you, Leia! Short nails are so much more practical, and they are much easier to keep clean and healthy looking, too!
When I played the piano, I wasn’t allowed to wear nails polish at all!=)

  12. stylemefab says:

I work in a lab and wear gloves so i can`t ever get fake nails. I do love and almost always have gel nail polish on my natural nail. Ever since I learned about it i have never looked back. It doesn’t chip no matter what and it makes my nails grow out stronger

Ps: Antonia you should consider a career as a hand model….

  13. Cee says:

I love all of the time and effort you put into taking care of your nails- your collection of nailpolish is so impressive :) I can never find time to keep the painting up, so usually I just don’t bother… but when I read your blog, I always think I should try harder :)
